Here is an update to my profile. My life is quite full and full of hope for our future – whether I’ll be
there to share it or not!
I still work as a Marketing and Fulfillment executive and fill in at the Fairfield Public Library on
one weekend a month. My family and I moved back to Bridgeport in April 2024 and are enjoying
condominium living – without any worries about outside chores. When an opening came up on
the homeowner’s board, I went for it and am now part of my HOA Board helping to make our
community better and keep our building in good repair.
My real passion has become social and racial justice advocacy. The Racial Justice Team at my
church partners with community programs that work to change laws and policies to provide
equity within our community. We are members of CONECT – Congregations Organized for a
New Connecticut – a grass roots organizing group of 36 congregations in the state. We have
passed Clean Slate to erase low level convictions for folks who are not repeat offenders,
advocated for more equitable funding for inner city schools, lobbied for more affordable housing
and are currently working to pass a bill for Just Cause Evictions – to limit evictions of renters
with no cause or violations, but whose building have been sold.
As a graduate of the Bridgeport schools and now a resident of the city, I am appalled by the
quality of our city schools. Only 25% of the students read at grade level and the math scores are
worse. We had a good education at Central and in our grade schools – we were able to further
our education, find rewarding jobs, and support our families on the skills we learned in city
schools – shouldn’t kids living in 2025 have the same opportunity? I attend the Board of Ed
meetings, speak with the BOE members and my state reps and senator and advocate with
FaithActs for Education at the state capital. This is such rewarding work, and it is so important
that suburbanites show up and join the struggle.
Through these activities, I have met the most amazing and committed people. I have found
hope and a light in the darkness for Bridgeport and our society. As disconnected as our society
seems to be there are pockets of people working together to make life better – many are faith-
based organizations, and I like that aspect of it. I believe it is only through moral, caring people
who band together to do good works that the needle will move. Slightly, but if every group
moves it slightly there will be a landslide.
Wrapping up – life has been good to me and continues to be. I’m relatively healthy, have good
energy and through my faith tradition found important work to end my years. My family is good,
my golf game needs work, and my spirit continues to be positive.
