In Memory

Frank Stephen Sierdy

Frank Stephen Sierdy

Frank Sierdy, 77, of Chaplin CT passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 19, 2020.  Frank was born on October 21, 1942 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Stephen Sierdy and Olga (Hencsei) Sierdy.  Frank was predeceased by his wife Peggy (Verespay) Sierdy whom he was married to for 50 years.

Frank had worked for Avco Lycoming for a number of years before being laid off and then went to work at Bridgeport Jai-Alai and Milford Jai- Alai.  He was also employed by Fairfield Cab as a cab driver and always had a good story to tell about his nights spent working with the public.  He lived in Bridgeport and Stratford most of his life.

In the early years, Frank always enjoyed Sundays as he spent it with his wife, kids, family and friends whether it was having a picnic at his parents’ home, outings to Lake Quassy, fishing at Sherwood Island, swimming at Jones Beach, going to amusement parks, sledding or just a "Sunday Drive" to wherever. He really enjoyed trick or treating every year with his granddaughters as he had worked nights and could not attend with his own kids. Frank was like a big kid, always laughing and joking.

Frank enjoyed taking a ride to the NY racetracks and playing poker at the casino before his stroke in 2001 causing him severe paralysis. He and his wife then moved to East Haven to live with their daughter and her family.  In 2016 he and his daughter moved to Chaplin and he really enjoyed life in the country where he enjoyed listening to the river, birds, watching football, baseball, jeopardy, playing cards and endless games of chess on his computerized device which he played for hours. Frank also enjoyed the family dogs and cats...who will miss him especially at his mealtimes because they were always included.

Frank is survived by his daughter Ann Fotheringhame of Chaplin, CT, his son Robert Sierdy of North Providence, RI;  his three granddaughters Tricia, Mel and Ally of East Haven; his sister Janice Madden and her husband Anthony of Naugatuck, his brother Stephen James Sierdy of Bridgeport, several nieces and nephews and his son in laws Peter Fotheringhame of East Haven and Christopher Bennett of Chaplin who he resided with and played many games of setback.  In addition to his wife Peggy, he was predeceased by his sister Maureen Thomas.

A celebration of Frank's life will be held at a later date when it is safer for all of us due to the Corona Virus restrictions.

I did not know Frank, but I truly enjoyed reading about his life;  a wonderful and contented life it must’ve been. My sympathy to Frank’s family and friends.
