Peter S. Palmer

Peter Stuart Palmer, 66,  passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2009 at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, FL. Mr. Palmer was born in New London, CT, June 17, 1943; the son of the late John E. and Mary DeGange Palmer. Mr. Palmer was a veteran, who served in the U.S. Navy. An educator for his entire professional career, Mr. Palmer began his teaching career as a math teacher at the Elizabeth C. Adams Middle School in Guilford, CT, where he taught for more than 20 years before retiring to Palm Coast, FL in 1989. While living in Guilford, Mr. Palmer also worked as a part-time Manager for the former Fonicello's Home and Garden Center and also served for many years on the Guilford Park and Recreation Commission. Upon moving to Florida, Mr. Palmer was involved as the Director for the Title 1 Federal Grant Program and had worked for 16 years in the Flagler County School District as the Parent Specialist/Coordinator for federally subsidized low-income student programs. An advocate for all children, Mr. Palmer sought to find the good in every child and believed that education was best delivered one child at a time. His desire for the best programs to challenge the abilities of each student will be part of his continuing legacy in Flagler County. Surviving Mr. Palmer are his wife of 20 years, Gail; his daughter, Jennifer Palmer of Guilford, CT; son, Matthew T. Palmer and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, Cheshire, CT; his stepdaughter, Mary Costello, Guilford, CT; stepson, Donald Costello and daughter-in-law, Jodi, Palm Coast, FL; sister, Francesca Palmer, Duluth, MN; and his brother, John Palmer, Sacramento, CA; and six beloved grandchildren.
